Principal's Message

Dear Parents,

Despite some growing pains, we’ve had a great first six weeks of school!  Our current enrollment is 484, which has increased from our ending enrollment of 458 in 2010-2011.  Students have adjusted well to the routines of middle school.  This letter includes a few key reminders to help make your child’s year more successful.

The first week of school every student was given a student planner to help them keep up with homework and manage their time.  Please encourage your child to write their daily assignments in their planner.  This helps increase student responsiblity and organizational skills.  The planner includes a copy of our student handbook.  This handbook has been developed to ensure consistency of expectations and procedures for our school.

Attendance is critical for student learning.  Every effort should be made to avoid unnecessary absences, however, when a student must be absent from school, he/she must bring a note signed by the parent or a note from a medical office upon returning to school.   Student attendance not only increases student learning, but also affects our state funding.   Absences hurt academically and financially!

The CISD dress code is an established guideline to ensure a clean-cut and well-groomed appearance for all students who represent our schools and community.  Please be sure your child complies with the dress code that is outlined in the student handbook.

We are working hard to keep you informed about CMS activities.  Our website is updated regularly and includes a link to our monthy newsletter.   Our parent portal is another tool that is available to show you  your child’s grades and attendance.  Something new for 2011-2012, is the use of twitter to send reminders, updates and photos of what is happening on our campus.  Follow us here @CMS_Prin if you wish to receive these informal notices.

Please note that our front doors are opened at 7:35 a.m. and are locked at 4:00 p.m.  Students that remain on campus after  dismissal must be under the direct supervision of a teacher.  Students that are not involved in an after school activity, need to be picked up by 3:30 p.m.

We firmly believe that a strong home and school partnership, along with consistent communications, will help our children achieve in a safe and positive school environment.  We thank you for your continued support as we look toward a bright and promising year for our children.

Sincerely,

Janet Calvert, Principal
